World Heritage Beech forests of the Valdeón Valley
The privileged nature of the Valdeón Valley is also reflected in the decision of the Unesco Committee to include in the World Heritage List, among the original beech forests of the Carpathians and other regions of Europe, two of the beech forests present in the territory of Valdeón, that of Cuesta Fría and that of the Asotín Canal.

The beech forests of Asotín and Cuesta Fría received in July 2017 one of the highest awards for their natural value, as it is one of the living testimonies of the ecological processes that have taken place on the continent in the last hundreds of thousands of years.
The “First beech forests of the Carpathians and other regions of Europe”, including the beech forests of Asotín and Cuesta Fría, was presented to Unesco for its declaration as a World Heritage of Humanity in a joint candidature of Spain, Albania, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Slovenia, Italy, Romania and Ukraine), the main theme being a selection of the most representative beech forests on the European continent.
